Found mostly on Tortuns and some tanky units.
Can be used to prevent death for one turn and wait for more support. It can save a champions life in a sure death scenario, if only to allow him to do more than just dying. Also, you can do little rush-ins with this; charge in, turtle, and retreat on the next turn. Be careful, and ensure your enemy can't block your retreat.
