  • The homepage is looking nice, but it's already looking clustered.  You might want to consider new design options, fast.

    • I think it looks great for right now -- how would you recommend changing things? Maybe add some information about the game on the front page?

I personally think the pictures add more visual interest than the text, which is why I converted things to images.

What i mean, is that you can only fit one more of those giant banners in, before things become horribly clustered and lost.  The pictures are great, but 9 of them will be more than enough.

What i want to know, is who to update those tabs on top of the Wiki.  All of the other Wikis do it.

P.S.  Formatting here is insane (in the worst possible way).  I'm just going to do everything in word from now on.

  • Mmmk.  So i looked up how to make collapsing tables, and found more than a helpful source here.  But, it doesn't work, any of it.  I was that hoping you knew how.

    • I don't know, but if it works according to wikia help, it should work on this wiki. You might ask someone in the wikia forums if they know.

  • I was thinking that the name "new player guide" isn't particularly informative/accurate.

Should this be changed to read "basic concepts" ?

      Loading editor
    • Basic concepts is an option, another (probably ideal) option would be to get one of the pros to write an in depth "how to get started with the game" guide. IMO of course.

        Loading editor
    • You can always add other categories to those pages. The original idea was to put together a list of pages that new players should start with. Since it makes sense to start with basics, those pages happen to be about basics.

Others can always write an article about how to get started -- that can be in addition to the individual pages.

  • I can't help but notice that the Augur of the Deep has not been updated to reflect the most recent changes, from the most recent patch.

Is your script malfunctioning?  Is the Wiki fated to be outdated before it's even really begun?

When I was researching bots I didn't find how to create an automatically updating script. But if you let me know how, I'd see if I could make it work with what I already have.

Unfortunately, i don't know very much about scripting at all.  I would be no help to you whatsoever in that regard.  I'm doing my part to help update the wiki here and there.  I would hope that you guys are doing something on your end, to make data feeds more streamlined.

P.S.  If the updating script has to be manualy activated, then can't you run a seperate script, to have that script activate constantly?

    • Sounds good. I think all of us players are trying to do our part.

Definitely creating pages like Damage over Time is helpful, as that is something that players know about but isn't written down anywhere.

  • The lack of distinction between the 2 names in insane.  Aren't you a Dev?  Can't you change the names to like...  Poison damage and the DoT to Vitiate/Taint or something?

      Loading editor
    • Oh don't get me started. Disarm (spell) and Disarm the ability? Poison (damage type) and Poison the ability. Not to mention that there are 8 Pox Harbinger runes with the same name, and LE runes have the same name.

I hope the devs now realize that this is a ridiculous way to name things, but I'm not sure they'd change everything to give it a unique name.

So then, you're not a dev?  Aren't you in charge of updating the Wiki with official feeds?

It's these sort of redundancies that make the game so incomprehensible to new players.  How hard can it be to rename the few odd spells that overlap with abilities?  Disarm, Reclaim, Etc.

        Loading editor
    • No, I'm just a player, who updates the wiki in what time I have available.

Why not make a post on the forums discussing the overlap of names and abilities Personally, I don't have a problem with Poison causing Poisoned, as that seems reasonable. However, having the ability Doom and spell Doom do slightly different things is pretty ridiculous. Same deal with Scapegoat being a bit different than Designate Scapegoat (though this may be a bug).

Srsly?  Are there any Devs actually updating the Wiki then?

  • I was browsing around the starting pages of the Wiki, and noticed something very unfriendly.  Within all of the faction pages, each and every champion/spell/equip belonging to that faction, is immediately listed and clustered together, even though spells/equips/champions have their own seperate categories, respective to their factions.

You created these scripts.  If it's possible, could you remove the basic faction category from every rune uploaded through these scripts?  So that they would have Sundered Lands Champions/Spells/Etc. and not Sundered Lands themselves (with Sundered Lands as an example).

P.S.  I don't know very much bout scripting, but if you were to give me what you've created so far, i'm reasonably sure that i could alter, or learn from it.  It's annoying having to rely upon you.

    • I changed the front page back. I'm sorry this communication hasn't worked well, but if you have any other suggestions, please try to be as precise as possible.

Feel free to keep editting things by hand, and I'll try to keep updating things.

  • Houston we have a problem. There is a champion titled Ranger, and a class titled Ranger. Currently all champions with that class link to the champion Ranger, as dictated by the scripts, and the scripts themselves also create the "Ranger" page. Any suggestions as to how to solve this, create a disambiguation, etc?

      Loading editor
    • I renamed the page Ranger to Ranger (champion); you can now create the page Ranger for the class. I recommend just calling it Ranger so it works with the links that already exist.

Note this won't fix links to the Ranger champion which already exist on pages, but I don't think there's much of that yet. You can also add something in italics For the statistic from Poxnora 1, see Attack (stat) just as you would normally edit text.

    • K, that works, I'll get to it!

        Loading editor
    • Don't forget that you or others can rename pages too. Most things in the wiki are set up so that anyone can do it if you know how, and you can search google to learn how.

  • Checking a bit, I think that maybe adding a category to all basic attacks could be automated(they all say "this is a basic attack") I don't think this would work with non basic attacks, however.

This categorization could be nice to analyze abilities like block and dodge, and would help to clarify on this. I don't know if you agree, but most bug threads seems to come from this problem, and detailed listings would help.

      Loading editor
    • Just noticed some "activated abilities" tags are missing, are these automated?

        Loading editor
    • Knowing which abilities trigger block, dodge, pacified, and a few others isn't even something players can do. So I don't think that is something we can automate.

I can do the basic attack part, but I'm not sure how helpful it would be. There are only a few abilities that do basic attacks (aside from the basic attacks each champion has).

Activated abilities versus passive abilities were added manually, and I haven't found a good way to add them automatically. One idea I might check out is putting the passive ability template if the ability has 0 AP cost and 0 cooldown, and activated ability otherwise.

        Loading editor
    • Maybe I didn't say it correctly, I recognize what you say, and I only want to include a tag "Basic Attack" to the basic attacks each champion has (ussually attack:xxxx) the rest needs to be done by humans and I think I'll do it.

  • Hi, XiapeX!

Just wanted to let you know that I'm working on the game guide app for this site. As such, I'm going to be tweaking categories here and there so things show up proper on a mobile device :) Any questions, just send me a shout.

    Best regards,

    Raylan

Edit: Don't panic, but I'm moving content on the category pages I run across to their own pages. Ideally that's the way things should be for search purposes as well as functioning properly for the app.
