Note that Deflect changes what champion receives damage, which means any "damage required" abilities will affect that champion instead. Any "successful attack required" abilities will not be affected.
It is common for the ability to target unit that has it so it always triggers, but then the opponent can attack with a champion to absorb the blow (or who is immune to its own damage). If you target a specific champion, then then the opponent will realize this the first time they attack and it doesn't trigger (and know which champions deflect will not trigger against).
